Animal Collective Set to Reissue 2003 Album “Campfire Songs” on Paw Tracks

7 10 2009

CampfireSongs900RGBPaw Tracks is proud to present the reissue of Animal Collective’s 2003 album “Campfire Songs.” Since the CD’s original issue on Catsup Plate recently went out of print it is their intention to simply keep the cd in print for as long as possible.

While the songs were completed in the apartment that three of the members shared (Geologist does not play on this album) they chose to record the music on a screened-in porch in Maryland using portable mini disc players so as to allow the ambience of trees blowing in the wind, the birds chirping and the insects in the area to become an integral part of the sound flow. What remains intact are the melodies that have always
been a part of the AC sound-though here they have been stripped away of any electronic accompaniment and stretched and slowed to a calmer place than anywhere AC had been before and perhaps has gone since.

“Yo Gabba Gabba! Music Is Awesome!” Cool Music, For Cool Kids.

24 09 2009

YoGabbaGabba_MusicisAwesomeWant cool music for your kiddies? And no I’m not talking about Karen O’s “All is Love” for “Where The Wild Things Are.” Although I absolutely adore that song.

When I first got the press release and album advance for “Yo Gabba Gabba! Music Is Awesome!” I automatically thought it had something to do with The Ramones. To my surprise, “Yo Gabba Gabba!” is an award-winning, two time Emmy-nominated show on Nickelodeon. The series currently ranks as one of the most popular series on television with broad appeal among preschoolers, parents, teens and adults. Um, yeah, not quite the GrimyGoods material, I thought. But after I read on to see that “Yo Gabba Gabba!” features some of the hottest names in movies, television, music and sports, such as: Jack Black, Tony Hawk, Biz Markie, MGMT, The Roots, The Shins, Elijah Wood, and many more ― I took “Yo Gabba Gabba! Music is Awesome” for a spin.

The intro on the first track “Yo Gabba Gabba! Theme” tripped me out a bit as did the second track “Party In my Tummy.” They both have some psychedelic swirls of fun and sweet candy-coated electro beats. Moving on to “It’s Ok, Try Again” by The Shins, it’s a cute song with a deep repetitive hook that holds truth to us all whether you’re four or 29. Money Mark’s “Robob Dancing” had me swaying to his groovy beats while Biz Markie had me trying to lay down the perfect beat-box. The dreamy vocals and sweet melodies through out I’m From Barcelona’s “Just Because It’s Different Doesn’t Mean Scary” was pretty damn awesome. It’s going in my iPod.

It doesn’t end there though, you have The Roots, Of Montreal, The Little Ones, Weird Science, Yo Dazzlers and Mark Kozelek all on this AWESOME album. Screw that Barney crap, get your kids “Yo Gabba Gabba! Music is Awesome.” Finally, some bearable tunes that even you won’t mind listening to.

To Be Released October 20th Via FILTER US Recordings. Pre-order the goods here.

Fool’s Gold Release Official “Surprise Hotel Video”

24 09 2009

LA’s Fool’s Gold has come out with their official video to their amazingly awesome song, “Surprise Hotel.” It’s wet n’ wild and looks like heaps of fun! Especially for the old cheesy farts frolicking in the video with bikini clad babes.

Their vibrant dance anthem “Surprise Hotel” is almost five minutes of sheer delight and will have you wishing you were on the white sands of an exotic beach dancing the night away.

Their self-titled debut album drops Sept. 29 off of IAMSOUND. If you ever get the chance to see Fool’s Gold live, I highly suggest you jump on it. They put on an awesome live show full of movement and a plethora of instruments. Not to mention, they’re all pretty damn good looking!

Bobby Birdman Preps New Album, “New Moods”

23 09 2009

BobbybirdmanNow this is some shit I can get down to. But wait, who the fuck is  Bobby Birdman? I’m not familiar with this guy and I hoped he cleared his moniker with Tony Hawk or that one rapper dude, but damn he’s got quite the alluring vocals. Drawn like hot buttah over a phat lobster tail of beats, rhythm and soul, check  out his new track “Only For a While” here. It’s pretty damn yummy.

On “New Moods,” his most focused and complete musical effort to date, upbeat pop anthems jostle up against shimmering slow a cappella numbers, while New Orleans bounce, dancehall, and hyphy funnel noisily into each self-produced pop number. Sun-drenched guitars and Bobby Birdman’s characteristic, unfuckwithable new-school croon wash over drumline weirdness and tyrannical sub bass, like a rogue wave on the Malibu beaches he frequently surfs.

“New Moods” drops Nov. 10 off of Fryk Beat.

Austin’s Brazos Unveil Cover Art and Tracklisting For “Phosphorescent Blues”

23 09 2009

Delivering vocals as sweet as sugar sprinkled over delicate rhythms and soothing melodies, Austin’s latest indie sensation, Brazos, are trotting their way to our hearts with their delicious sound.

Brazos began as the solo recording project of songwriter Martin Crane, who debuted his smart, lyrical songs in late 2007 with the acclaimed EPs “Feeding Frenzy” and “A City Just as Tall.” While “Feeding Frenzy,” written and recorded in one feverish weekend, emerged as a delirious brand of catchy, multi-layered minimalist folk, “A City Just as Tall” came just as quickly but sharper, both lyrically and musically, and proved that Mr. Crane was up to an intriguing start. Crane tapped friends, guitarist Nathan Stein and bassist Paul Price, and after rolling through a few drummers including White Denim’s Josh Block, finally selected local drum-maestro Andy Beaudoin, whose credits include a Master’s in Jazz Studies from the New England Conservatory in Boston, to play the new material, and Brazos was born.
